Please Note: Some university programs may ask you to write your Abstract at the end of your paper. We, however, write the Abstract upfront to organize the writing process. If you have a paper written already, that’s okay. You will be pulling parts of your paper to write your Abstract in a color-coded approach.

Point 6 Lava Mountain and Approvals Training
• Don’t be caught “off guard” by faculty exchanges, be prepared
• Master the "art of communication" between you and your advisor, faculty, chair, and/or committee members—a team approach
• Strategically know how to select your committee members ahead of time
• Use the Thesis Writing Timeline Checklist on when to send your paper draft for approvals in your writing journey
• Effectively use emails for quick correspondence, and a Change Control Log to document all requested changes
• Know if you should change committee members

Please Note: Each university program has its own set of approvals through an advisor, faculty, or committee. Some programs have an additional university office approval requirement and others may not (just department approval). That’s okay. We keep it more generic and focus on communications, receiving approvals, and meeting deadlines that adhere to all program types to support you in graduating.
